The Footprints left on Substack
No one has shown me how to share my writing. Nor have I searched YouTube University. I tend to do things the hard way by forging my own path. Sure, it takes me a lot longer to do what others can do… but I learn a lot more.
So, here’s my journey so far on Substack and what I’ve learned.
Babies’ first steps at creating a subscription
When I found substack I had no idea what to do or how to set it up. And to be honest… I still have no clue what I’m doing. But that isn’t going to stop me. When I started, I wrote a blog… then nothing. I even shared it on all my social media.
Needless to say, I’m not a social media kind of person. My views are a bit… how shall I say… fixed. To me, social media is a waste of time if you’re not into the whole dopamine, self-absorbed narcissistic movement. Now, you may ask, “Then why do you have the accounts?” and that’s a good question. It’s because I get to stay in touch with a few people in my family, and I need social media for my business to rank on Google.
Trusting the Process
First, I started posting on LinkedIn. A few articles would get noticed… others a few views… then out of nowhere, more than a few thousand viewed my article on managing your time better. And another article had good traction. I’d copy and paste the article here on Substack… but again, no luck.
When I shared my links to Substack, everyone opted in for the Free version instead of looking at the juicy stuff. Now that I’m getting better at writing, I want to focus on the subscription part. But again, I have no idea what the hell I’m doing.
What’s to be expected?
It may come as no surprise when I say I’m going to keep writing and sharing my content. When the thought of having to market… even though I’m a marketer… I get an “UHHHGGGHHH” feeling. I just want to write. And yes, I know… I know… my marketing has writing in it.
But that’s not the point. Marketing, I have to act, be, and write a certain way due to AI’s bullshit. And with the ideas flowing, I don’t wish to waste time on planning a 15-word social post… plus, the algorithm deems me a ghost. Meaning, that no matter what I post, it’s only getting a very limited amount of views.
What? Still here?
Ohhh, you think this is the part where I switch into a copywriter mindset and give you a link to check out?
Well, I don’t want to disappoint you…
So, here’s a non-shady, non-bullshit, and non-threatening link to Amazon for my Lipstick On A Pig Marketing book. It’s a deep dive on how you can stand out from all the AI bullcrap.
